Meeting Point: Walk & Canal Tour
Location & Address
Copenhagen Central Station,
Banegårdspladsen 7,
1570 Copenhagen
Exact Meeting Spot:
We meet inside Copenhagen Central Station, in the center of the main hall, under the round analog clock on the central pillar – right next to the 7-Eleven and the ticket machines.
How to Get Here
Navigating a new city can be tricky, so here is our local insider guide on how to reach the meeting point smoothly and stress-free:
- By Metro: The Metro station at the Central Station is located underground. Please factor in an extra 5 minutes just to take the escalators up to the main surface hall where we meet.
- By Train: If you are coming by regional or S-train, please note that trains can occasionally experience minor delays. We highly recommend catching a train that arrives a bit earlier than needed to secure your spot on the tour.
- From the Cruise Port (Orientkaj): If you are arriving on a cruise ship, skip the taxi lines! We strongly recommend taking the Metro directly from Orientkaj Station. The Copenhagen Metro system is fully automated, world-class, and honestly a cool local experience on its own. It will bring you straight to the Central Station much faster than a car.
- By Uber / Taxi: Planning a 9:00 AM weekday tour? Keep in mind that you’ll be traveling right in the middle of local rush hour. Copenhagen traffic can bottleneck, and finding a ride-share can take longer than usual. Make sure to set off early to beat the morning traffic!
Insider Tip: Arrive Extra Early for Coffee & Pastries at Lagkagehuset
As a reminder, our tour starts promptly, and you must be at the meeting point under the big clock at least 10 minutes before departure.
However, if you want to be on the safe side, avoid rushing, and treat yourself like a true Dane, we highly recommend planning your journey to arrive 25-30 minutes early instead. This gives you plenty of time to visit Lagkagehuset, Denmark’s most famous and beloved bakery, located right inside the station hall.
- What to try: For a truly authentic local experience, try a "Direktørsnegl" (a rich chocolate-covered cinnamon roll) or a "Frøsnapper" alongside an organic coffee.
- Time it right: Grab your treats to-go so you can easily stroll over to the central pillar and meet your guide on time.
Please note: You are more than welcome to bring your coffee or pastry to the meeting point and enjoy it during the first part of our walk. However, open food and drinks are not allowed onboard the canal boat later in the tour, so make sure to finish your treats before we hit the water!
Luggage Lockers
Please note that this is an A-to-B tour. We start at Copenhagen Central Station and end the tour at Amalienborg Palace. Because we will be walking approximately 5 km (3 miles) and boarding a local canal boat, it is not possible to bring large luggage, travel backpacks, or big strollers on the tour.
If you are arriving straight from the airport, a cruise ship, or checking out of your hotel, you must store your luggage before meeting the guide.
Where to store your bags at the station:
Fortunately, Copenhagen Central Station has excellent, secure, and automated luggage lockers.
- Location: You can find the luggage lockers right inside the station, located near the exit towards the street Istedgade (just ask any station staff or follow the suitcase icons on the overhead signs).
- How it works: The lockers are fully electronic, easy to use, and accept international credit/debit cards. You can choose between small lockers (for carry-ons) and large lockers (for big suitcases).
- Timing tip: If you need to drop off luggage, please add an
extra 10–15 minutes to your schedule before meeting us under the clock, as there can sometimes be a short queue at the locker area.
How to Buy Your Public Transport Tickets
In Copenhagen, you cannot buy tickets onboard the Metro or city buses with cash or cards. You must have a valid ticket before you board.
The easiest and cheapest way to buy tickets on the go is by using the official local transit app called DOT Billetter (DOT Tickets). Here is how to set it up in less than 5 minutes:
Step 1: Download the App
Search for "DOT Tickets" (or DOT Billetter) in your app store, or use these direct links:
Step 2: Create Your Profile
Open the app and select English as your language.
Go to the menu and click "Create Profile" (or Sign Up).
Enter your phone number
You will receive a 4-digit verification code via SMS. Enter it in the app.
Fill in your name and email address to complete the registration.
Step 3: Add a Payment Card
In the app menu, go to "Settings" ➡ "Payment Cards".
Click "Add Card" and enter your credit/debit card details (Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted).
Step 4: How to Buy Your Ticket
On the app home screen, click "Buy Ticket".
Select "Where to?" and type in "Copenhagen Central Station" (or København H). The app will automatically calculate how many "zones" you need from your current GPS location.
If you want a pass that covers your entire stay (including your ride from the airport or cruise port), choose the "City Pass Small". It gives you unlimited travel on the Metro, Trains, and Buses in central Copenhagen for 24, 48, 72, 94, or 120 hours.
Swipe "Slide to buy" at the bottom of the screen.
⚠️ Crucial Rule: Your ticket is only valid on the phone that bought it. Always buy the ticket before stepping onto the train, metro, or bus platform. If a ticket inspector boards, simply open the app and show them the active ticket screen with the moving animation/QR code.
Plan Your Route Like a Local (Live Transit Planner)
While Google Maps is great, locals in Denmark use Rejseplanen (Journey Planner). It is the most accurate, real-time transit app in the country, showing live updates, track numbers, and any sudden train delays or platform changes.
