The best walking tours in Copenhagen, and how to pick the right one

Copenhagen is a city made for walking. It is flat, compact and full of small streets where the best bits hide just around the corner. The hard part is not finding a walking tour. It is picking the one that fits you.

We are Go Like a Local, the #1 tour operator in Copenhagen on Tripadvisor (#1 of 494 Tours & Activities, October 2026). We run small-group and private walking tours in Copenhagen and Malmö, and this is how we would help a friend choose.

First time in Copenhagen? Walk & Canal

Our most popular tour shows you the big highlights on foot and from the water, on the public canal ferry, the water bus locals use. Every departure sees the changing of the guard at Amalienborg. Tours that start on the whole hour end at Amalienborg, and tours that start on the half hour (9:30, 11:30 and 13:30) end in Nyhavn.

The canal ferry cannot be reserved. If it is full, we walk the canal route instead: about 5 km with the ferry, about 7 km without. See the Walk & Canal tour.

Short on time? Highlights & Hidden Gems

Two hours through the old town: Rosenborg, the Round Tower and the quiet courtyards most visitors walk straight past. We end in Nyhavn, where we have reserved a table for the group at a classic family-owned restaurant. You are welcome to stay for smørrebrød, but there is no obligation to buy anything. See Highlights & Hidden Gems.

Curious about how Danes live? The Secret to Danish Happiness

A walk through Nørrebro about hygge, trust and everyday life, and why Denmark keeps coming out near the top of the World Happiness Report. A metro ticket, a pastry and coffee are included. See The Secret to Danish Happiness.

Love a coffee break? CPH Contrasts

From Nyhavn across to Christianshavn and along the green edge of Christiania, with two breaks for coffee and cake along the way. See CPH Contrasts.

Want two countries? Malmö

See two countries in half a day. We take the train across the Øresund Bridge to Malmö at 9:00 and are back in Copenhagen by 13:00, with the afternoon free. See the Malmö tour.

What makes a walking tour good?

  • Small groups. Ours are never more than 12 guests, so you can ask questions and actually hear the guide.
  • A guide who feels like a local friend. Not just a lecture, but personal tips on where to eat, drink and go next.
  • Free cancellation. When you book on our website, you can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before the tour starts.

Travelling with family or friends? All our tours also run as private tours, just for your group.
